Gordon, the multiplayer beta is done and the product has released. You can download v1.2 that has multiplayer support. It is a free upgrade.

Why is the forum name "Multiplayer Beta"?

That forum is not visible to the public any longer (or shouldn't be) because the beta is no longer occuring. It is still visible to multiplayer beta participants however to collect final feedback.
