The complete source code and content for Warfare Incorporated has been released under the BSD open source license. The open sourced version is called Hostile Takeover. We'll continue to maintain a Warfare Incorporated branded version, and we'll pull good changes to the open source version into Warfare Incorporated.

Please feel free to post questions and I'll do my best to answer them.

Thanks,
Scott

Wow, this is excellent! Thanks for the work I know you and Darrin put into this. I'll do my best to contribute. :-)

I got a kick out of it being called Hostile Takeover, the original title to WI.

Yes it was the original name. By the time we went to release the original, that name had been registered by a different company. When we went to open source we checked again and the registration had elapsed and it was available again, so we had our name for the open source version.

I ran the game through Xcode; it's a bit strange to see "Hostile Takeover" as the game logo .

Thanks Scott (and Darrin) for doing this! Can't wait to see what type of things happen!

Yeah, it surprised me for a sec.

Score!

It's great to see WI/HT progressing again. Thank you Scott! :)

Edit:
It's been a while since I've been involved in any programming or coding. What are the requirements, for a noob like myself, to be able to successfully alter HT and then run the augmented version?

Edit 2:
The requirements can be found here: https://github.com/spiffcode/hostile-takeover

Open source just means anyone has access to the game's source code. They can't modify the actual WI app or server without having Scott involved. OF course, someone could make their own version of WI with the source code and post it in the appstore, but I haven't heard of anyone doing so.

I'd love to see where this goes. I will likely learning C++ in college here in the fall. So if someone I know we'll from WI is working on it, I'd like to participate.
This is a genius game, and I want to be a part.
It has been so long since I've been around. Thank you Scott, I hope all is well!

I have personal skills in SEO, SEM, and Ppc. So even if I can't help develop any for nate makes, or if Scott updates it. I'd enjoy marketing the app. Lemme know if I can help that way.

I've been working on learning C++ and have a decent handle on it. We should try to get a few people together and work on some type of community update!

If you know how to code than this should be easy to install. I may get around to it soon, right now I'm focused on Java and C languages unfortunately.

The majority of the game is programmed in C++ and the developer tools are C#.

This is not done on Windows; this is done on a virtual machine running OS X.

And the game is written almost exclusively in C/C++.

But the virtual machine runs on Windows. So essentially you're getting Xcode to run on Windows, you're just going through a few extra things.

Thanks for open sourcing it, it's great to be able to come back to this game after so long and still be able to enjoy it!
