Sometimes I hear a popping or crackling sound during play, its not constant but its definately there. Im just wondering if its a known bug, compatibility issue or what? Im using an ipaq 1910, btw. Im not to worried about it though so dont think Im complaining because I usually turn the sound off seeing how I usually play it at work...

I've noticed this too. It seems to only happen when the action is fierce. I think it's a hardware limitation, if I had to guess. I think that probably the audio engine overloads from all the "yes, sir"s and such being fed to it at once.

We've noticed a few of the voice sounds can sometimes cause speaker distortion on a few devices, the iPaq 1910 being one of them. We're aware of the issue.

is this due to speaker size and quality? or programming issues?

It's due to speaker quality, and sometimes how the speaker is mounted. These two things vary widely between devices. Poor speaker quality can result in distortion. Speaker vibration can result in distortion inside the PDA case because of how it is mounted. Because of variances like this, some sound effects can cause problems like you mention on some devices. iPaq 1910/1940 is notorious for a distortion on the female voice for example. Palm m505 sounds like birds chriping... etc :)
