I have not played the more recent RTS games available on the PC, but I know the older ones I did play did not have field medics or engineers.

Field medics could run around any ground units close to them, and fix them up. Granted, I do not think they should grant 100% health, but they should be able to heal a unit to a minimal degree. You could even have varying levels of field medics based on R&D levels. For complete healing of units, a hospital could be built.

Engineers would be roughly the same, only they fix equipment. Likewise, they would not be able to get equipment 100% operational, which is where repair bays would come in.

Thoughts?

I saw the medical unit in the poll, but felt more detail was required to get my complete idea across and to expand on the idea to include engineers.

I figured it would be in that poll somewhere, but there comes a time that a topic becomes so HUGE and generic, it's better to just start a more specific topic.
