As I was reading the post made by Vontak in the General Discussion, He had a link to a picture of a photoshopped warfare. In the picture, there was an option to retract the minimap! Just imagine how great that would be! You could see a full screen! I know that I have issues with the minimap sometimes, it gets in the way when you are attacking a base South East, or South of you. In one of the levels that I modified, there was 1 rocket tower that always got in the way of the minimap, it could not be destroyed because of it.
The minimap should be retractable. Period. Last edited by guitarist809 on Sat Jun 18, 2005 7:56 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I agree with guitarist here, there really should be the option of retracting it.

I dont get your suggestion. Hey Scottlu and Darnim, can you make a retractable minimap for the game?

Remember in starcraft, when you could assign a group of units to a button, so all you would have to do is hit that button and their selection would come up...
VERY handy if you know how to use it properly. For instance, I could be surrounded and want a full withdraw from the outlying areas... I'd just hit my three armies' buttons, and tap where i want them to go, all in about a second. Without them, it would take at least three seconds. And as you surely know, those two wasted seconds could have been the two seconds that you built a surveillance center and started your defenses |

ok, I get it now. I don't play star craft thou. Your'e right, but all this stuff is going to cram up the screen. You would like have a button for all the liberators, hydras, eagles, boradswords, cyclops, dominions, security guards, rocket troopers, and corporate raders. That would cram up the screen area.
And 2 seconds IS alot of time for a game. |

Noticed that Warfare doesn't use the 4 application buttons?
...for anything important? How about using those? |

"who cares about an UZI if I can use a gattling"
Gattling guns were invented at the end of the civil war (1800). UZI's were invented 150 years after that. Now the SMG was invented in 1960's |

but "Gatling" sounds cooler than "Uzi", so I'd rather have a gatling.

What about an SMG, M16, M60, M10, or a Desert Eagle
THOSE SOUND COOL (at least I think so) |

I wonder how long it would take to modify the minimap like that?
You know what, I don't think they're gonna do it in this game. Most likely the next. I mean, if they did do the retractable minimap, they would have to test it on all the devices again, and they'd probably have to put it through another beta (It's a pretty big change). It wouldn't be worth all the hassle, unless theyre making a lot of other changes with it. You know what they should do? They should make a sort of "Expansion Pack" sorta thing, which is just Warfare with the changes that everyone's been talking about. Hype it up a little, get the people everywhere talking about this crazy new "Warfare Incorporated Expansion Pack", loads of people buying.... but I'm rambling. |

Yeah, but they said that the expansion packs would cost $$$! I just want a new version with alot of the crap that everyone has said, like the walls, chat, retractible minimap, etc, etc...

Even if it did cost money, I would gladly pay. Anything for a great game!

Lol, it would take me a year to do it, and only a month for them. Big waste of time, I'd rather work on my own game

Maybe you could start on a bete version of the retractable minimap and just leave them to the rest. Thatway it doesnt take too long for you but will still encourage them to make it. Also, as much as I would love to have all that stuff into an expasionn pack, i'd rather get it all for free as version 1.3. (I don't really have much $$$)

Verd, how could it take you a year? You wrote you own palm game (ENTIRE GAME) in a few months, im sure that just modifying something in a game coldnt take you an entire year!

The game or the level?
And - anyway this is getting off topic (don't want verd to get furious at me again Anyway, I do think that the retractable minimap would be a good idea! It just that, well, warfare will never update |

If only we had the source code. Ask somwone who has a good rep among the handmark cumunity. like the forum admins? Or the creators instead?

main topic, retractable minimap would be cool. in landscape mode, you could add a button to change the display of the map

A retractable mini-map would be nice, an expandable full screan map would be better, this would have the added advantage of maybe being able to make maps a little larger (since you scroll and can only see part of the map during gameplay anyway). It's a thought.

I'd say there is almost no point in a larger map, since the game would continue while viewing the map. I try to think of what would follow these three rules:
1) Must be useful (even if just slightly) 2) Must be practical (not too many downsides, no large downsides) 3) Must be useful if available in any game mode (1P & 2-4P) How about this? A movable map, so it can be in different corners of the screen. |

that's a good point, just joined the forums today and wrote the first idea that i had, not fully thought through. Will try harder next time. Just messing around with the ME today, maybe that will help me with better ideas. One option i would like though would be to be able to tell your units to hold. I hate it when i set them up in an arch around a squeze point and as the battle goes on they will go through the squeze point so they get squezed instead. And if you tell them to retreat out of the area they leave and get shot up on the way. That is my main problem. anyway i hope to contribute in the future.

Acualy its a good idea. In BF2 thers the same option and its very usefull cuz first its transpwrant so I can see whats going on second it shows everything in great detail. I can see selected units moving and not just a big thing filled with units.

I'd say that having fight stances (like stand ground & defend) would be very nice
