While playing the game, system is crashing at different places, different playing times, no detectable common thing(s) between the crashes.
Any idea?
I'm using an m505 with 730k+ free RAM, no hacks, no overclocking, every used 3rd party application is bought legally.

I don't have any immediate ideas. We don't have anyone else reporting random problems like this. I'm interested however! Especially if you can find a "common element" or a "repeatable element" that can provide me with some clues to follow.

Yesterday i played a lot with Warfare (up to level 5) and recognized, that if Handango Security Guard guards the warfare database(s) when too much units are on the screen the system is crashing.
After i turned the encription off (which was automatically turned on by Handango Security Guard) the system crash occured only if i played near to the map edges - usually on the top of the map.
I will collect more...

Great info, thanks! I will look into that. If you find anything else out, or a specific level with specific instructions, that would be excellent.

I started playing this yesterday, and I'm on level M6, when I've had one Fatal Error and three freezes. Very frustrating. I had one Fatal Error on M5 as well. Nothing seems to be in common.

Overclocking means that you set the processor's clock to higher speed. E.g for palms you can set the original 33MHz up to 66MHz. Or the Intel Xscale processor is designed for very wide speed range, from 100MHz up to 400 MHz.
Overcloaking is something with coats...

Scott,
I am using a Clie NX70, and I am not using overclocking. I believe the problem is with the graphics accelerator. I deleted it, and the crashes stopped. Now tho the graphics seem to slow way down if there are lot of characters.
I have had only one other freeze - when I accidentally pressed the Jog Dial. I was very disappointed that this game has no Jog Dial support whatsoever. At the least, please disable it!
Love the game, tho. I would strongly suggest implementing a way to exit quickly from every screen. I'm not afraid of getting caught playing or anything, but when duty *does* call, it sucks having to go through hoops to exit.

I've noticed that my T665C will crash every time my alarm goes off while playing the game. However, it doesn't crash if I'm in the statistical info or mission breifing mode. Also, if I spend a long period of time playing (building up a massive army and alot of other things on the screen), it will drastically slow down, freeze, and then cause a fatal error. This happened on every mission I've played (from M1 to M6 so far). It will also give me a fatal error when I play greater than 1/2 hour (with very few things on screen - Alex, enemy bases and troops [M5?]).
I don't run any hacks except for Uptime. DateBk5 to handle the alarms and using ZLauncher's shortcut feature to play the game. I have 3.1megs free on my device.
Good thing I treat it like an RPG and save often and can continue where I finished building off.

After I completly removed the Handango Secure Guard, crashes stopped (I could play more than an hour without crashing, which was not possible before). It is very interresting, why the secure guard blocked the fast database access, what caused the crash, after i deny it.
I hope this will solve this #&{#@#&@> problem finally.
BTW the game is great, but i'm playing all night which is not soo good at the morning in the work...

I have been playing my way through the story missions, and had a few crashes.
The first occured during the introduction story screen to M5, which prevented me from playing the level. I continued on to the next mission, but had the same thing happen when I reached M7. I decided to try loading all the other missions, and the only other one that did not work was M14.
From what I can tell, only the missions with story screens before the pre-mission transmissions cause the crash. All challenge missions work fine.
I am using a Sony Clié T665C with no overclocking and 4.4MB of internal memory free. The game is running the off of an 128MB Memory Stick.

I'm in the middle of M8 when the system crashes (for the first time). I reset my Clie N70, but everytime I load Warfare again I go the message "Fatal Alert, Fatal Exception" and needs me to reset again. What can I do? Does it has anything to do with having only .48M free memory? Thanks.

Hi Jen, that is surprising that it is crashing. I suggest first freeing up more memory and trying again. If the problem still persists, please post here again. Thanks.

Fatal Alert on T665C at end of level 9 Limited Partnership.
I had captured the Rebel base and fought OMNI, capturing their HQ (and other buildings) and destroying all resistance. Basically, I was waiting for the end of mission screen when instead I got the Fatal Alert. Needless to say I'll have to start the mission again. Uggg...

Well....
I restarted level 9 and about 15 minutes into the game I got another Fatal Alert. No reference or error code as to why, just Fatal Exception.

OK... third time.
End of level 9 and "Fatal Alert, Fatal Exception".
HELP!!!!
UPDATE: Fatal Alert again when a scheduled alarm went off. Good news, I was able to complete the mission without fatal errors though sound and game play were choppy.

Hi Development Team,
I free up some memory and now it reaches 1M, but the problem persists. I'm using a Sony N70 without any system modifications (like those overclocking). :_( I miss playing the game so much.

Bob, please try removing MQGX.prc from your device. You can delete it from the app launcher. We are having some problems with MQGX.prc and I'd like to see if this solves the problems you are having. Thanks.

Jen, can you tell me if you have a NR70 or a NX70? I don't have any suggestions yet.

I'm not even granted the luxury of "Fatal Alert" messages. My handheld just freezes. Luckily, I've had no in-game crashes yet. My problem is only when trying to start certain levels.

BobT, I am aware of the alarm issue. In the cases where you encounter this problem, is an alarm trying to go off?
mrpinkeye, I have a reply to you in a different thread.

Hi Warfare Development Team,
Just wondering if you'd come up with any solution. The "Fatal Exception" persists even after I free up more memory. Thanks.

Jen,
It actually had something to do with the audio (according to my correspondance with Scott) and I'm trying out the patch he sent me for my T665C. I suggest checking 'mute' in the sound option for now and see if it persists. So far the patch is working fine. I'm getting no fatal errors and mission lockups at startup or at the end of cut scenes.
However, I'm still testing it out. Actually going to play the whole story missions (and challenge missions) just to make sure.
To date:
1) you can't hear Audio Player in BG (since WI makes its audio primary)
2) sounds are somewhat muted when battles take place and resume back to normal afterwards.
3) so far, no slow downs yet
I'm just starting M5: Personal Goals at the time of this posting and setting everything to easy to see how far I can push the game. See if I can cause any slowdown or other mishaps while playing.
Scott I'll email you in sometime regarding my tests with the patch as I continue to make progress.
Thanks.

Hi Grandizer,
I turned off the sound of my Clie before starting Warfare, but I still have "Fatal Exception." Is there a way I can keep my current progress in the game even if I uninstall and reinstall the game?
Thanks again.

Sorry, the audio problem is with the T665C. For some reason I thought you were working with a T665C.
Hmm... that's kind of odd. My brother has an N760C (North American version of the N710C/G with OS v4.1) and I have not encountered any fatal errors whatsoever when playing all the missions. Although I have noticed that it will slow down or stall if there are way too many things on the screen.
You can save your progress by doing the following things before uninstalling and reinstalling the game.
1) locate the game save files using a file manager (like ZLauncher, Filez, etc).
2) move the game save files into the MS. You can put it in the Palm/Launcher directory if you want (or any other directory, provided you remember where you stick it).
3) uninstall and reinstall the game.
4) move the game save files back into RAM from the MS.
Finally, you're ready to play where you left off.
Hope that helps.

Jen you could do me a big favor and email me exactly when on level 8 that it crashes that would be extremely useful. Also include your device type and any hacks that you might be using.

Hi claxbane,
I'm a Palm "minimalist" so I don't have programs that can access files in my Clie. I tried using the MS Gate (the one that comes with Clie) to copy the game saved files to MS, but then a error message "Protect Folder, Current folder is access inhibit" poped up. Will try to give you more details if I can get Warfare to run again.
The information I know is that it crashed when I'm in level 8, and I am not using any hack (see, I said I'm a minimalist). I'm using Palm OS 3.5.2 with Launcher X.

Jen,
I suggest using a 3rd party file manager to move the save files (FileZ, ZLauncher, etc.). MS Gate is a very limited and restrictive piece of software. Does LX have a built-in file manager that you can use (I can't remember as I've only used the demo a very long time ago)?
Either that or copy/paste the save games from your backup folder in your computer to another location. Then uninstall/reinstall the game and hotsync the save games back into your pda. I honestly don't know if it'll work as I never tried this method.
Or if worse comes to worse, start from scratch...
Hope this helps.

I've had several freezes on M9 when trying to move large amount of units. Somewhat inconsistent but when I try to move about 50 units simultaneously and continually target new enemies, the game gets very slow and choppy and then freezes.

At this point we are still uncertain what is causing the problem. There has been some work done here to improve the way that the ARM based Palms run. I am hopeful that these improvements will fix the problem.
