First of all let me say, great game. It reminds me a LOT of another classic that I have played back in the day, Dune 2 on DOS. In fact the gameplay is almost identical. I can even recognize unit types.
Secondly, I have a problem. I can't save games. When I try to save a game, I get an error message saying my device is too low on memory and there's no space left. Now, my setup is somewhat unusual. I have a Handspring Visor Prism, with 8MB of RAM. Currently 2.5MB are free. However the game isn't installed in the RAM, but on a CF card. I use a MemPlug CF adapter from Portable Innovation for my Visor, with a 128MB CF card (Link). As a launcher I use LauncherIII, and I have moved the warfare PRC to the card using the launcher, then the game databases as well with PiDirect (built in the MemPlug). Now, PiDirect can only use the card in read-only mode, in other words it won't write databases to the card (even though there are almost 50MB available). However, many other games work well with this setup, because they write the savegames to the main RAM. My guess is that Warfare tries to write the savegames to the CF card, not the main RAM, and this is why it fails. How can I force the game to write the savegames to RAM instead? [/url] |

Okay, to reply to my own post.
I have solved my problem. Instead of running the PRC through LauncherIII and the PDBs through PiDirect, I have put everything together under PiDirect. Now it works fine and saves games to the RAM. Hope this post can solve it for someone else in the odd situation that the problem should arise again. |
