Multiplayer IP Address problem

Ive seen abunch of topics about this, but most people seem to have it fixed before i do. So heres what i do, please tell me what im doing wrong:
1)Load Game
2)Tap Play Multiplayer
3) Tap IP 192.168.55.101 (this is the same IP as one of my friends i tried to play with, but we dont have the same connection... hell we dont even have the same provider, if it makes a differenece, he is dial-up and im DSL)
4)*Screen says "Join or host a game" on top. and in middle "searching for loacal games..."* i click specify
5)type in my friend's IP into the "input panel" screen
6) tap "ok"
7) goes back to "searching for local games..." screen


So wat am i doing wrong?!?

you need to go to www.whatsmyip.com to get your ip address the ip you are using is your local network ip not your true ip

Good answer DONTSLEEP. I hope the player p3rf3ctman can figure it out. Here is my version of an answer to their question.


1)Load Game GOOD

2)Tap Play Multiplayer GOOD

GOOD

5)type in my friend's IP into the "input panel" screen HOSTer needs to know his IP# using www.whatismyIP.com . JOINer needs to enter this IP# after tapping SPECIFY.

6) tap "ok" GOOD

7) goes back to "searching for local games..." screen NO GOOD -- HOSTer needs to have his computer firewall configured to HOST a game. See http://www.handmark.com/warfare/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5194#5194 for more specific info on how to do this.
