In this scenario, try to stay alive as long as possible. Enemy "portals" will spawn units that progressively become more numerous and deadly. I think you'll like it if you liked Goblin Merchant's team survivals.

Look for this file in the challenge mission list, for I havn't made it for multiplayer yet.

Now with high scores! Sorry if that cut scene is messed up. Spacing is hard to do in that, since there's no 'down a line' key like enter.

They only go to 14. Any suggestions for the level? Too easy? To hard? Any bugs? I myself havn't even tested it.

I will post people's names in a "high score" list that I will tag at the end of the level once you are killed. I'll wait for 5 high scores before making an addition to the level.

The scoring method will be time survived (in minutes) times a hundred plus kills-losses (enemy units destroyed - friendly units destroyed - buildings destroyed.)

To start off, here are my stats:

Time: 3900 (39 mins)
Kills: 1386
Losses: 189
Buildings lost: 69

Score: 5028

And, please, be honest!

The difficulty is always a good question when you're making a map. Good thing is that you don't need to test it to see if it's difficult enough. Just make it difficulty enabled. (Use the $difficulty pvar)

I love this mission's idea!

For the purpose of the "high scores" contest, I think gameplay should be the same for everyone, amateur or expert. Anyone else have a score?

Yes, I just finished playing it. My hand is aching and it's hell to type, after moving the stylus at light speed to build rocket towers as fast as they were destroying them, and then ordering all those hydras, liberators, and rocket troopers...
Anyway, here's my score.

Enemy Units Destroyed: 1721
Friendly Units Lost: 619
Friendly Buildings Lost: 228
Credits Acquired/Spent: 479495 / 478985
Elapsed Time: 00:55:35 (55 minutes, 35 seconds)

I love this game! Now that I know what's going on, I can probably do better. My new goal is an hour! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go rest my hand. Ow, ow, ow...

PS. I love your game, UGMC

Congratualtions, Verdagon, your score was 6374. I'm glad you like the level. It does get a little fast-paced after a while!

I still need 3 more scores before I can make a high score list right on the game. If I throw in my own, then only 2.

Geeeez.....My fingers........I'm still trying to hammer out the best strategy, but I love the concept of the mission.

I like to consider myself a very good player, but my best stats so far are nothing in comparison.

Here's what I have to offer:

Enemy units destroyed - 456
Enemy buildings destroyed - 0
Friendly units lost - 200
Friendly buildings lost - 71
Credits aquired / spent - 140722 / 140125
Elapsed time - 21:23

I reached Level 11.......based on Verdagon's stats, I can do better and I will certainly try. GREAT MISSION

my third shot at it,

Time 42:20
Kills 1397
losses 421
buildings 94

I think that is about the best I can do for now. After playing for almost 50 minutes my eyes get bugged out and my hand was getting numb...

I just wanted to confirm some information regarding the mission.

Are there only 14 portals?
If so, does the mission end there?

Just asking, as Verdagon played for almost an hour, and the last time I played, I reached Portal 13 with 32 min and 44 seconds

Latest Stats:
Enemy Units Destroyed - 918
Enemy Buildings Destroyed - 0
Friendly Units Lost - 353
Friendly Buildings Lost - 157
Credits aquired / spent - 289663 / 289420
Elapsed Time - 32:44

Yes, there are only 14 portals. The cut scene will inform you that on the 14th portal. And the mission does not end there, it is a "survival" game where you live as long as you possibly can.

Your new stats are 3608. Keep working your way up!

This level never ends, I'm pretty sure. Once the fourteenth (yes, fourteenth is last) portal is open, it stays open and no more portals come.

I could add more... what's the limit to unit groups? 16 or 32? Sure hope it's 32.

Or you can have the unit groups appear at a faster rate, if the limit's 16 and you can't make any more...

Like say the unit groups appeared at 30 second intervals. If they appeared at 15 second intervals, it's the same thing as having two groups appear.

Hmm, a reducing trigger?

A trigger to increase a PortalNumber pvar.

A trigger to reduce a Counter pvar every second.

A trigger to spawn troops whenever Counter is zero.

Triggers for each PortalNumber to set a Counter pvar to smaller and smaller after it reaches zero.

Portal 1 - set Counter for 30 seconds
2 - 20 seconds
3 - 15
4 - 12
5 - 10
etc

Um... The portals respawn unit groups once they die, not based off of a timer. But I guess that could make it a little more customizable...

I love this game, although I'm not that good at it. My scores are 3597 and 1766.

If the portal groups respawn when they die, coudlnt you adopt a passive resistance strategy? Like fill the entire map behind the river with power generators or something, whatever has the lowest credits/grid space ratio. Then you could just survive indefinitely, because the unit groups won't get bigger past 14 groups. Just my thoughts.

Just did some calculations on the credits/grid space ratio, and surprisingly enough the HRC has the least amount of credits, with 166 credits per unit space. The most is the HQ with 1200, but if you don't count that its the Towers of course, but if you don't count that its the Galaxite processor. So ideally if you could build HRCs all over the place....

You can't build past the river, where the units spawn. I've never tried it, but I'm sure it works. Supposedly, if you do, you lose.

Oh, and what do those scores mean? I can get you in the high scores if I knew which was what, as well as how long you survived.

I calculated my score already. Anyways, I don't have the details....

I'm doing Verdagon's method now, with 0.12x.

1427 NME destroyed
23 FRI lost
40 FRIB lost
Elapsed 00:31:07

Still going strong. I think I'll run outta galaxite. I've already reached both my building and unit limit.

Update:

2051 NME destroyed
23 FRI lost
90 FRIB lost
Elapsed 00:41:08

Almost exactly ten minutes later. Goddamn fourteenth portal! 5 Cyclops! Thx for the tips UGMC I have a good strategy. Kill all but one Cyclops and kill all but one Andy and bask in the joy of not needing to kill 6 Cyclopses are 3 Andies.

Yeah, I used that strategy on Verdagon's level where you fight your way to the top of the map.

What's the lowest high score currently? I haven't played that level through for ages, because if you know how to do it, it won't end until the galaxite's over. Anyway, I'll have to update the high scores if you made your way onto it.

By the way, I'm glad this level isn't "stale", when it always end up at the bottom of the mission sharing list! :D

I finally got around to playing this one. I have two scores to report. The first represents how I would normally play the game.

Enemy Units: 3600
Friendly Units: 331
Friendly Buildings: 397
Credits acquired/spent: 583668/582580
Elapsed Time: 01:22:31

Then I played another one keeping the score formula in mind, and deliberately playing in such a way to maximize the score.

Enemy Units: 6141
Friendly Units: 57
Friendly Buildings: 406
Credits: 575300/575300
Elapsed Time: 02:06:04

Post Posted: Sat Apr 30, 2005 1:27 pm  Post subject: Potral high scores

I only just recently tried playing WI "Portal" and I wanted to send you my high score. I see most of the posts on this site are quite old, so I dont know if you still want this info. None-the-less, here is my score.

These number are from memory as I accidently erased all my add-on games when I deleted a duplicate version of WI on my PALM.

Enemy units destroyed 27,500+
My units lost: 450 +/-
My buildings lost 125 +/-
Galaxicte mined: 50% of avaliable G still remained
Time: 37+hours (at 8.0 times speed after setting up my defences)

Reason for ending game: I didn't lose, I just stopped. All my defences were still intact and I could have gone on for another 30+ hours, that was reason enough to stop.

If you want to know how I did it (no cheating) send me an email.

Post Posted: Mon May 02, 2005 8:34 am  Post subject: Potrtal High Score

Hi, I wrote earlier with my high score done from memory. Since then I have found an older backup of a saved game on my PC. This saved game is some 15 hours earlier than what I wrote about, but since I can at least provide proof of this score, here it is:

Enemy Units destroyed: 13,082
Enemy Buildings destroyed: 0
Friendly Units lost: 201
Friendly buildings lost: 148
Credits acquired/spent: 508,019 / 406,363
Elapsed time: 15:36:33

Score = 106,334! (And thats only 1/2 what it was when I quit playing)

I've received one request, so far, as to how this is possible so I am working on a description of how I did it. I did not cheat, and I estimate I could go another 45 hours before my Galaxite runs out and the enevitable end comes.

OK, it's official ! I have reached the ultimate HIGH SCORE. (WITHOUT CHEATING) I wrote about my high score before and while ensuring that I could reproduce the incredibly high score that I had then, I found I was able to achive the ultimate High Score...
It is:

Enemy Units destroyed: ? (Infinate*)
Enemy Buildings destroyed: 0
Friendly Units lost: 87
Friendly buildings lost: 87 (courious coincidence)
Credits acquired/spent: 307,971 / 203,572
Elapsed time: ? (Infinate*)

Score = ? (Infinate*) :shock:

*Note that infinate is a relative term. Our Solar system will end sometime in the next 5 billion years or so, though I think my PALM will give out some time before that.

I have found the altimate defence, I can even leave the game unattended indefinately and continue to kill enemy units with NO losses on my side.

If you're courious or don't beleive me, I can send you a saved game data file so you can see for yourselves. :D

Here is my high score;

Time--1:52:01

Friendly Builings Lost--630

Friendly Units Lost--98

Enemy Units Destoyed--5910

I came up with this score, i think i did it right

Score--20,383

My sratigy was to build as many towers as posible, and i turned the game speed way down.
I could have gone longer but i ran out of Galaxite.

THIS GAME IS AWSOME!!

Your score on this try would be 10,680 (Quite respectable)
The formula is:
(Time (min) x 100) + EUD + EBD* - FUL - FBL
So your score = (87 x 100) + 3020 + 2 - 733 - 309 = 10,680

*EBD was not included in the games formula. Just an oversight I think but it should have been included. Of course it doesn't affect the score much anyhow.
